  • Rules and Specifications for Entries

    1. All floats must be fully skirted on at least three sides to be considered float. Eligible float entries must be constructed to withstand travel and weather conditions.
    2. Floats must not be over 12 feet wide for clearance on sides and not over 15 feet high (measured from the ground) for clearance of overhead obstructions. Length is left up to the discretion of the float builder but should not be too long to negotiate all turns.
    3. Each float must be numbered according to the order designated by the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). Each float must clearly display the organization’s name and the current homecoming theme. It is requested that when possible floats be displayed in the parking areas southwest of the Administration Building after the parade. These should remain in place until halftime of the Homecoming football game.
    4. Vulgarities and questionable subject matter constitute grounds for immediate removal from the parade.
    5. Floats will be judged based on originality, design and quality of construction, mechanics, application of Homecoming theme, and in comparison, to other float entries.
    6. Cash awards for float entries will be made to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Prizes are $1,500, $1,000 and $700 respectively. There will also be a $250 prize for the outstanding band.
    7. If you have equine or other animals as part of your entry, you must provide your own accompanying personnel with shovels/rakes. Failure to comply will result in removal from the parade.
